TITLE OF MANUSCRIPT: Angel Bait
GENRE: Paranormal Romance
WORD COUNT: 85,000 words
Bullets, daggers, and holy powers can plow through any threat with ease. Yet none of that crap can protect Jarrid, a Heaven-sent assassin, from the tempting Ionie Gifford.
As a half-Angel hit man, Jarrid learns a Renegade Angel is in Detroit. Such a high-level takedown is the answer to his prayers: an end to his forced employment with Heaven. He only has to find the right bait to draw his elusive enemy out of hiding. The perfect lure? Ionie, a news reporter the Renegade wants silenced.
Ionie agrees to help the enigmatic Nephilim with penetrating silver eyes and a worship-worthy body, but only because he agrees to her terms. He’s her all-access pass into the city’s supernatural underworld where she hopes to locate her mother’s killer.
But Jarrid is blindsided by her beauty and tenacity, and he finds the eternity-old glacier around his heart thawing. With duty and desire at war within him, he’s forced to either save Ionie from the trap he designed and stay chained to Heaven – or make her collateral damage.
FIRST 150 WORDS:
Inky night concealed Jarrid within familiar shadows like a second skin. His current cellphone-jabbering target paced a few yards away in the Detroit alley, ignorant of his impending visit from one of Heaven’s assassins. Empty liquor bottles, broken and jagged, crunched beneath the man’s feet. Loose garbage bags flapped in the breeze, blending the putrid contents to a dozen other vile stinks.
Jarrid absently stroked the leather strap at his chest. The inlaid sigil of the Eternal Order, a deep-set carving of ancient symbols, was bumpy under his thumb. Each intricate rune labeled him a servant, a lifetime branding.
